A former star basketball player for Stevenson High School is shooting for the Olympic gold for the third time as part of the U.S. women’s basketball team.
Tamika Catchings, who as a sophomore led the Patriots to the 1995 state championship, was also named Ms. Basketball of Illinois that year, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Catchings then moved to Texas, where she completed high school. She went on to play basketball for the University of Tennessee, and was drafted by the Indiana Fever in 2001. She has since stayed with the WNBA team.
Catchings played on the women's Olympic basketball team in 2004 and in 2008, taking home the gold both times.
In London, the team won all five of its preliminary round games. Team USA will face Canada in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. The winner of that game will advance to Thursday’s semifinals, with the finals scheduled for Saturday night.
