The College of Lake County in Grayslake will host a youth job fair on March 7, 2013.

Don't let the wintery scenes outside fool you. It's already time to start planning for summer jobs. Employers are gearing up for seasonal work, and young job seekers are wise to begin their job search early.

The Lake County Job Center offers a number of resources and programs to help youths navigate the process.

The Lake County Board's Summer Youth Employment Program offers youths age 14 to 18 (or 14 to 22 with an Individualized Education Plan) the opportunity for a paid, part-time work experience over the summer. Youths are matched with local public or non-profit worksites and gain valuable experience while earning a pay check.

"This program is an investment both in our young people and in the local communities where they will be working this summer. It's a win-win," said  Jennifer Serino-Stasch, Lake County Workforce Development Director.

Applications for the summer youth employment program are available online, or at the Lake County Job Center in Waukegan, and are due on Feb. 28.

New public or non-profit worksites are also needed to host youth workers. For more information, visit www.lakecountyjobcenter.com.

Jobapalooza

"Jobapalooza," Lake County's largest job and resource fair for youth ages 15 to 21, will be held Thursday, March 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the College of Lake County in Grayslake.

Nearly 30 employers will be recruiting employees for full-time, part-time and seasonal work, and a variety of resource and training providers will be available to answer questions and help young people in their job search.

Jobapalooza is sponsored by the Lake County Job Center and the College of Lake County Career and Placement Services Office.  For more information, call (847) 543-2059 or go to www.collegecentral.com/jobapalooza.

"We know that helping young people get their first job is critical," says Lake County Workforce Investment Board Chair Todd Mundorf. "Learning about the responsibilities and benefits of work at a young age can set the foundation for a productive future and ease the transition from school to the world of work."
