I have served with Annette on the District 113 School Board for the past two years (and did not know her previously). Over this period, I have developed the utmost respect for her as a community leader, as a passionate advocate for obtaining the best possible education for all of our students, and as a thoughtful and independent decision maker. I wholeheartedly endorse Annette and encourage the community to reelect her to the District 113 School Board.
Annette is extremely intelligent – Brown University undergraduate degree in political science and education and a law degree from Case Western. She is analytical in her evaluations and willing to ask tough questions to make certain that all viable options are considered.
Annette is extremely experienced and knowledgeable in education and school board leadership. She is a certified teacher and has substituted in our high schools. She understands the issues and challenges from the inside perspective. She understands school management at the board level having served on our board for the past 4 years and having served on a New York City school board as well. She is a leader on our board who knows how to engage and discuss with respect and an open mind. She brings valuable insights to the board based on her experience as an educator and as an attorney specializing in labor law.
Annette has supported the important initiatives in our district: standardized teacher evaluations, more responsible contracts with employee groups, redesign of the Core Curriculum, the implementation of enhanced security, and the revitalization of our facilities, among many others.
Annette is extremely involved in our community. As a school board member, she is constantly meeting with and listening to various parent groups. She is active with local, state, and Federal elected officials on educational issues and has fought for more education dollars. She has lobbied state legislators for pension reform and Members of Congress for Federal Impact Aid. And she is deeply involved with Israel through AIPAC and Friends of the IDF and women’s issues through the Jewish Women’s Foundation.
Annette is fiscally conservative. She has pushed hard for balanced budgets and prudent expenditures. She has asked tough questions about needs versus wants. She has been committed to the process of bringing our school facilities into the 21st century with an affordable plan.
I urge you to support Annette in her bid for reelection, to become informed on the issues and to exercise your constitutional right (and moral obligation) to vote.
Sincerely,
David Small
