Deer Creek Gets New Assistant Head Tennis Coach

 Sidney Mella has begun his new role as Assistant Head Tennis Pro for the Junior Development and Elite programs at the Park District of Highland Park’s Deer Creek Courts, 701 Deer Creek Parkway.

Sidney Mella has begun his new role as Assistant Head Tennis Pro for the Junior Development and Elite programs at the Park District of Highland Park’s Deer Creek Courts, 701 Deer Creek Parkway. 

The son of former Davis Cup player Cecil Mella, Sidney brings a wealth of experience to the tennis program as a Level 2 ITF Certified Coach and a Certified USPTR Tennis Professional.   

A national player in Manila and Chicago, Sidney earned a full scholarship to the University of Illinois in Chicago where he played No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, after which he pursued a career in teaching the sport. He has coached several Junior FedCup and Davis Cup players in Manila. 

Prior to coming to Deer Creek Courts, Sidney worked with College Park Athletic Club and he also had the opportunity to run The Mella Tennis Academy in Florida in 2010. He is currently completing his last semester for his Master's Degree in Administrative Education.  

Meet Sidney Mella at the Deer Creek Courts Open House on Sunday, August 26 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Families are invited to stop by the facility any time during the afternoon to play with the pros, enjoy refreshments, and enter drawings for a chance to win Deer Creek Courts memberships, tennis and racquetball items, and more.
