I’m writing in support of Julie Starkman Gordon’s candidacy for the District 113 School Board. Having worked together for 21 years, I know how fortunate District 113 would be to have her serve on the Board. Julie brings fresh thinking and an external, business-focused view to the challenges facing our Schools. She has extensive experience in many topics which the Board needs to consider – from pension problems (she is a credentialed actuary who spent more than 30 years dealing with pension issues) to all matters of governance, having served on the Board of Directors at Hewitt Associates for many years.
During her term on the Hewitt Board, the company went through a period of extensive change as it transitioned from a private partnership to a publicly traded company. Julie’s work on the Board focused on preserving excellence at a lower cost. That is exactly what is called for at District 113 today. Her actuarial training and her business leadership provide her with the analytic skills so critically needed on our School Board. Julie will seek the facts and make sound decisions based upon those facts to benefit both our students and our community. The caucus recognized that District 113 needs Julie Gordon.
