One person was critically injured in a house fire at 236 Valley View Dr. early Monday morning. The resident of the home was taken to Skokie Hospital and, at the time of publication, is listed in critical condition.
The call came into the Wilmette Fire Department at 1:11 a.m., and firefighters arrived at 1:16 a.m. to find "heavy flames" coming from the front of the house, Wilmette Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike McGreal said.
"The crew entered the structure, dampened down the fire and performed a primary search, where they immediately found an elderly female victim in the dining room," McGreal said.
The victim was unconscious, and was transported in critical condition to the Skokie Hospital. She was the only one in the house. Her current condition has not yet been reported.
There's an estimated $100,000 in damages to the home.
Crews from Winnetka, Glenview, Evanston, Northfield and Skokie assisted the Wilmette Fire Department with the fire. Ambulances from Highland Park and Glencoe also arrived on the scene. Members of the Morton Grove Fire Department were on standby for other calls.
