An Evanston man who said he experienced racial profiling while biking through a construction zone in Glencoe, has taken steps to sue the Glencoe Department of Public Safety.
The local reverend, who is black, alleges that a Glencoe officer pulled him over on his bicycle and issued him a ticket, while multiple white cyclists entering the no-biking zone were not pulled over.

"Sounds to me like the reverend is looking for some attention," said commenter ebuddha.
Meanwhile, commenter Melissa disagreed.
"Yes, It's true," she said. "He is doing this because he got unwanted attention. Glencoe, Glenview, Skokie police all do that to minorities. Even when you call them because you need their help, they treat minorities different than whites...I've seen it for years."
This isn't the first time someone has suggested that racial profiling goes on in the North Shore. In 2000, the Rev. Jesse Jackson called for a federal investigation into the Highland Park Police Department, after five officers claimed the department encouraged police to target certain groups unfairly. The city worked with the ACLU to create and implement a plan designed to prevent the practice within its police force.
