District 113 Superintendent George Fornero begins Tuesday's community meeting about the district's improvement needs.

I would like to thank all those who have attended District 113’s Community Engagement Meetings.

Your participation throughout this entire process is essential to creating a Long Range Facility Master Plan for our high schools that addresses several long-term educational and facility needs.

As many of you know, this has been an extensive process and the Community Engagement Meetings represent that. The first presentation on Sept. 4 focused on informing residents about the development process and the schools’ serious capital improvement needs and priorities. The second meeting on Oct. 2 was aimed at presenting a number of different and complex construction options to the community for feedback. At our final meeting on Nov. 27, architects will present their completed Long Range Facility Master Plan with associated costs.

Since this plan will impact the next several generations of students our goal was to educate and involve the community as much as possible on all the work being done so they understood how architects landed on their final plan.

I know that everyone has busy schedules and other commitments and want to thank you for your time, support, and feedback. I am confident that together we will be able to develop a strong plan that can be implemented effectively.

I look forward to seeing you at the final Community Engagement Meeting on November 27, at Highland Park High School, at 7p.m. In the meantime, head to Dist113.org to view our informational website on the process.
