Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

Good boy, bad burglar

A Skokie homeowner heard his dog barking in an aggressive manner in the downstairs basement.  The homeowner then heard the sound of someone running followed by a loud “pounding” noise. The homeowner believes the pounding noise was when the suspect opened a basement door that is not frequently used by the family. No items were reported missing.

You mean there's a different policy for TVs than for those little soaps?

A Skokie hotel manager told police a guest checked into a room and checked out the next day. When the cleaning crew arrived, they noticed the television missing, police said. The TV was valued at around $700.

Strange that they decided to leave all the myrrh behind

Palatine residents were sitting down to Christmas dinner and noticed a dark figure with an orange cap approaching the nativity scene in their front yard. Before police could be called, the person took the Virgin Mary statue in the nativity scene, which is valued at $100.

DIY bye-bye

Someone stole a sewing machine from an Arlington Heights craft store. The machine is valued at $450 and the loss was discovered during inventory.

Someone needed to create a cheap, festive Boxing Day

A Skokie woman reported her Christmas lights stolen from her home on Christmas day. The lights were valued at $8.
