After admitting to officers that he was secretly video tapping customers undress in fitting rooms, Sergio Corona said it was because he heard other workers talking about thefts within the store, police said.
Corona, 21, of Chicago and a former sales associate at Zara in Old Orchard Mall, was charged with illegally filming customers on Jan. 14. Corona set up his peep cam by attaching a small camera to an article of clothing left inside a fitting room, according to police. He admitted to using the camera about seven to 10 times over an 11-day span, police said. The suspect told officers he acted alone and at first, his efforts were for security reasons, or to catch customers stealing clothing.
His motives would later change from security to personal reasons, according to police.
Corona’s peep show was foiled when a customer found the device attached to a price tag inside a fitting room. The woman notified several other employees and it was soon discovered that the device belonged to Corona, police said.
According to police, the offender said he did not distribute the videos, but watched them on his home computer.
Corona was ultimately charged with illegally filming customers. At this time, no further information is available.
